Plain words, no surprises
Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 4, 2026
The short version:
- You can browse everything as a guest — no account and no ad trackers. We use privacy-minded site analytics to understand which features are useful.
- We collect only what you type in: a username, an optional email address, and whatever you choose to put on a public business profile.
- We never sell your information, and we only email you when you ask us to — to confirm an address or reset a password.
- Your precise location is never sent to or stored on our servers — the “near me” feature works inside your browser.
- Want something removed — your account, or your name on an event we listed? Use the Report tool on any event, or email us.
Who we are
Booked Local Events (bookedlocalevents.com) is a local discovery board for live music, food trucks, and venues, starting with the Williamsburg, Virginia area. It is run by a small, independent team in Virginia. If anything in this policy is unclear, reach out using the contact details below.
What we collect, and why
- Browsing as a guest. No account is needed to look around. Like nearly every website, our server keeps standard technical records (such as your device’s IP address) for a short time to prevent abuse and keep the site running. Saves, follows, and your chosen search area are stored in your own browser, not on our servers.
- Creating a profile. A username and a password. Your password is stored only as a scrambled hash — we cannot read it, and nobody who looked at our database could either.
- An optional email address. Used only to send you a confirmation link and, if you ask, a password-reset link. Reset links work once and expire after 45 minutes.
- Your business profile. Whatever you enter — band bio, food-truck details, venue info, photos, links, menus you upload — is public on purpose. That is the point of the site.
- Claiming a venue. Your name, your role there, and a business email address, so we can verify the claim by hand.
- Performer verification. If you ask us to verify that you are the performer behind a name, we ask for your real name, a contact email or phone number, and links to your public pages — only to check that you are you.
- Reports. If you report an event or listing, we keep what you wrote so we can act on it.
- Site analytics. Replit records page views and a short list of named actions, such as searching, opening a listing, or successfully saving a profile. Event details are limited to broad categories, yes/no values, and counts. We do not send usernames, contact details, search text, messages, profile content, or precise location with these events.
Where your location fits in
If you tap the locate button, your browser asks your permission and then uses your position, on your device, to center the map and sort what’s nearby. Your coordinates are never sent to or stored on Booked Local’s servers — your browser simply remembers your chosen area so the map opens there next time. If you type a town or ZIP code instead, that text is sent to two mapping services — Zippopotam.us and OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim — to turn it into a point on the map.
One honest caveat: the map pictures themselves come from OpenStreetMap. As with any online map, when your device loads those images, OpenStreetMap’s servers can see which area of the map is being viewed, the same way any website you visit can see what it sends you. OpenStreetMap is a nonprofit project with its own privacy policy.
What we never do
- We never sell or rent your information to anyone.
- We show no ads and use no ad trackers.
- We do not use advertising analytics, cross-site tracking, or analytics profiles tied to your account.
- Signing in uses a secure, first-party session cookie that JavaScript cannot read. It expires automatically and is cleared when you sign out.
Events gathered from around the web
Some events on Booked Local come from public announcements — venue websites and public social posts — sometimes collected with the help of an AI service (Google’s Gemini) that reads those public pages for us. We only gather public event details: the venue, the date and time, and the performer name exactly as it was publicly announced.
Performers: if your name appears on an event and you want it removed, open that event and use the Report tool to ask, or email us. We will suppress your name from current and future imported listings.
Services we rely on
A few outside services help run Booked Local. Each one sees only what it needs to do its job:
- Replit — hosts the website, its database, uploaded files, and privacy-minded site analytics.
- Brevo — delivers our emails, so it sees the address and message being sent.
- OpenStreetMap & Nominatim — provide map images and turn place names into map points.
- Zippopotam.us — looks up ZIP codes.
- unpkg — serves the map software (Leaflet) to your browser.
- Google Fonts — serves the site’s typefaces to your browser.
Email we send
The only emails we send are the ones you trigger: confirming an email address you added, or a password-reset link you requested. They come from no-reply@bookedlocalevents.com. We keep a short log of emails we sent — the address and subject line, not the contents — so we can troubleshoot delivery problems.
Deleting your account
You can have your account deleted at any time, and you don’t need to keep the account to do it:
- In the app: sign in, open your account panel, and choose Delete my account. Confirm with your password and the account is deleted right away — no waiting, no email needed.
- Or email us at dylanvanecek@gmail.com with your username and ask us to delete your account, or use the Report tool on any event and ask there. We’ll confirm the request really comes from the account holder, then delete the account and its profile — usually within a few days.
What deletion covers: your account, sign-in details, profile, photos and menus you uploaded, and your saved email address. What it doesn’t erase: moderation and security records we keep for a limited time, any name-suppression you asked us to keep enforcing, and public event information that came from public sources.
How long we keep things
Your account information stays as long as your account is active. Records we keep for safety — like moderation decisions and security logs — are kept for a limited time and then cleared out.
Kids
Booked Local is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created a profile, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page, and we will flag meaningful changes on the site itself.
How to reach us
The fastest way is the Report tool on any event — no account needed. You can also email us at dylanvanecek@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
